Training Admission and Exclusion Panel Members

All exclusion panel members must be trained at least every two years.  While the 2012 Admission Code does not stipulate a timescale, two years is probably right for admission appeal panel members too.  It is essential that panel members have sufficient knowledge of the latest rules to carry out their duties.  Over the last few years there has been a steady rise in the number of complaints to the Ombudsman.  A well trained panel will result in less successful complaints to the Ombusman.  In 2013, we delivered more than 40 admission and permanent exclusion courses for a number of Local Authorities and School Admission Authorities.

We also run delegate based courses.  Our next courses will be held in  October 2014 at a London hotel.  The cost of these 5 hour courses which includes a training manual and a sandwich lunch is £175 per delegate or £300 for both courses (plus VAT).   A discount is available for more than one delegate from the same Admission Authority.  Discounted overnight hotel accommodation is also available.  If you wish to go onto our e mailing list, please e mail - training@educationappeals.com

How To Get Airtel Nigeria's WAP-MMS-Internet Settings Delivered Straight To Your Mobile Phone

airtellogoIn recent times, it has become kind of the norm to automatically have your network providers' wap, gprs, mms and internet settings configuration delivered straight to your phone when you insert their SIM into your new phone.
This is known as OTA (Over-The-Air) configuration and as far as I know Airtel Nigeria, MTN Nigeria and Etisalat Nigeria still offer this automated service. Unfortunately sometimes, it fails to deliver and that is why Airtel Nigeria launched a platform where you can send the proper internet configuration settings to your phones in a snap.
If you're dire need of Airtel Nigeria's phone internet settings, here's how to get them in 1 minute Winking smile.
Go to Airtel's DMC page and enter your phone number and click OK as shown below.

Complete Guide To How MTN Nigeria Data Share Works - F.A.Q

Updated: Cheap Etisalat Data Plans From 250MB for N500

image
BOOM! Etisalat EasyBlaze just got affordable to enhance data consumption on your data-hungry devices with the introduction of the new data sharing service.
Etisalat appears to have the most expensive data plans in Nigeria despite their incomparable data speed. Imagine paying as much as N2000 for a miserable 500MB?! Mshwww...
Now, you can have as much as 1GB at N1500 as well as enjoy that *incomparable speed* if you are within the Etisalat 3G zone. Also unlike MTN Nigeria's data sharing plan, you can check your data balance on your own by dialing *229*9#.
One of Nigeria’s top tech blogs, Mobility Nigeria is now offering 30 days Etisalat data plans for as low as N500 for 250MB. You can also get 500MB for N1000, 1GB for N1500, 2GB for N3,000 and 3GB for N4,500.
Mister Mo runs the site and is trustworthy. He’s been involved in some of gadget procurements including my recent Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display purchase so you’re safe.
I'm endorsing him 100% so not to worry. You're safe and he certainly won't disappoint. If you have issues with him which I very much doubt you will, feel free to contact me.
Don't forget to tell a friend to tell a friend. Just use the share buttons below ;)
THIS IS NOT A CHEAT! IT'S LEGAL!

How To Subscribe to MTN Nigeria's Internet Plans

MTN Nigeria Internet Subscription Codes
UPDATE 10th July 2014 : You can now get as much as 1GB of MTN data for just N1500. Click here for more details
In my honest opinion, the MTN Nigeria's internet has got to the be the worst of the lot of internet subscriptions I've tried n the past. It just seems to crawl for like forever and I never got to use 1.2GB of my plan in the 30 days slot due to bad network and slow speed.
On the other hand, some folks like my lil' brother are having a major blast with it even while living in the same house. It's as fast as depicted in that advert of the secretary doing backflips to and fro the copier machine @ work Winking smile.
MTN has two basic internet subscription plans. One for mobile phones and another for computers etc. It really doesn't matter which one you get as they can both function in any environment. That is ,your MTN Mobile Internet subscription can equally be used on your computer.
All MTN SIM cards come pre-enabled with data browsing so no need to worry. If you need the internet settings for MTN Nigeria, you can find it @ the end of this post.
Quick Notice: If you have excellent Etisalat reception in your area, you might want to check out these offers of 1GB data allowance for N2,000 and 2GB data allowance for N3,000. Click here for more details.
If you're not interested, just continue reading to get the info you need below.

Airtel Nigeria Now Offers The Cheapest and Most Cost Effective Mobile Data Plan

Airtel Nigeria BlackBerry Plans For Use On ComputersEveryone who owns a feature phone with internet access in Nigeria now knows that the cheapest data plan you can get goes for N1,000 with a minimum data cap of 200MB depending on the network. Same applies to those who own non-blackberry smartphones.
For those of us with BlackBerry phones, N1,400 can fetch us unlimited pinging, emails, browsing and downloads all month long without data restrictions if you're on the Etisalat Nigeria network (Globacom has a data cap of 3GB per month while MTN has one of 200MB which they haven't really enforced)
Airtel Nigeria recently deployed 3G across all states of the nation and after a few positive reviews from colleagues of mine, I was quick to sign up for the night browsing plan which I really enjoyed.
With Etisalat Nigeria and Globacom Nigeria experiencing BlackBerry internet connectivity issues for weeks here in Sokoto, I decided to give Airtel a try only to discover that they only offered what I felt then was a measly 1GB per month with the option of PC tethering which isn't available on blackberry data plans offered by other networks in the country unless you use some form of hack.
I must admit that at first I was very pissed 'cause I use up to 3GB of data a month since I tend to download movies and softwares on my blackberry but then after we launched MTN HyNet Wi-Fi internet access at my place of work, I began to see the beauty of Airtel's BlackBerry Data Plan.
I moved all my downloads unto the wi-fi network and noticed that on average I used up only 20mb of data a day on my blackberry smartphone.
In a month, I'm used to spending N2,500 a month on internet access but with the advent of Wi-Fi at my place of work, I now spend just N1,400.
NOTE: this article is only beneficial to those who don't own blackberry phones or don't use their blackberry for heavy downloads

FOR THE REGULAR PHONE/PC USER

Simply load N1,400 and text BCM to 440, and you automatically get 1GB of data for the month unlike the 200MB you get for N1,000 with other networks.

FOR BLACKBERRY SMARTPHONE USERS

If all you do on your blackberry phone is Email, BBM, Twitter, Facebook and Whatspp with browsing via Opera Mini, you'd be spending roughly 20MB a day which translates to about 600MB a month with 400MB left for you to browse on your PC instead of forking out N1,000 for a different data plan for your PC which by the way will only offer you 200MB.

How To Subscribe To Airtel Nigeria 1GB Data Plan for BlackBerry, Other Phones and PC

Simply load N1,400 worth of airtime and then text BCM to 440 for BlackBerry Complete
To check your data balance simply dial *141*11*0# and to check your BlackBerry validity period, simply text status to 440.
For more info, do please check out the official Airtel Nigeria Blackberry Internet Plans page.

For those of you who have been using Airtel Nigeria’s Blackberry Complete plan on PC and Android phones, what has your experience being like? Feel free to share with us by leaving a comment below

Glo BlackBerry Social and Complete Internet Plan For N1,400

Glo BlackBerry Internet Sevice Plans
Globacom Nigeria has just shot down the price of BlackBerry Internet Service in Nigeria by releasing a new package which reduces the monthly BIS access fee to an affordable N1,400 ONLY.
Yep! You heard it right. Glo BlackBerry Internet Service is now N1,400 and for this price you get the following :
  1. BlackBerry Messenger
  2. BlackBerry Mail example yourname@glo.blackberry.com
  3. BB-Built Social Networking & IM Apps: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Windows Messenger, GTalk, Yahoo Messenger etc.
  4. 24/7 Internet Browsing
  5. BlackBerry App World Access
  6. 1 integrated personal email address of your choice like Yahoo, Gmail, AOL etc.
  7. 3GB of monthly data allowance.
As you may have noticed, unlike the previous Glo BlackBerry Internet Service plan, you can only have access to ONE personal email account so for those of you, who own businesses and manage different email accounts, you are better off sticking with the old BISMONTH plans which by the way have also been increased to 3GB Winking smile.
NOTE: The rest of this article is best viewed via a computer or mobile device with large screen 'cause it contains relevant images with subscription codes.

These drastic price reductions leaves me wondering if the GLO network is strong enough to handle the tons of people that will possibly migrate from other network to theirs. 3GB a month for just N1,200/N1,400 is a lot but I'm guessing that they are banking on the fact that most BlackBerry users don't really download large files on their blackberry devices.
RIM might just have found a potential market in Nigeria for their BlackBerry smartphones Winking smile.
If you want to make good use of your 3GB of monthly allowance like I do, I highly recommended you get a BlackBerry device with OS 6 or upgrade your BlackBerry 5 to BlackBerry OS 6 and then install UC Browser and Download Manager For BlackBerry Phones.
If you find it difficult to upgrade to OS 6, you can also check out these functional download managers for BlackBerry Smartphones as well as PodTrapper Podcast App.

Download Large Files On BlackBerry - It Works!

How To Download Large Files On BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300
Have you ever tried downloading a large file of say 5MB on your BlackBerry device only to get a download failed error half way through?
Well we all are in the same shoes.
According to my network provider's customer care team, RIM servers have a download cap which does not allow the download of files larger than 4.8MB. Funny enough, they do allow the download of mp3 files larger than 5MB. Strange no?
BlackBerry geeks say the download cap has been removed  in the new OS Version 6 which is only available to select networks and phones. Relentlessly I've searched for a way out and buried deep within the BlackBerry Forums, I found a solution that works for real.
If you're ready, here's how to download large files of up to 70MB on your BlackBerry Device using a simple. easy to use Versatile Monkey Application Winking smile

How To Fix BlackBerry's Yahoo Messenger Service Not Enabled For This Handheld Error

How to Connect To Yahoo Messenger On BlackBerry Curve 3GIt's been over 2 weeks now since I got myself a BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 with a Globacom Nigeria BIS plan.  Right from the onset, I battled to get it working 100%. Amongst the many problems I encountered were frequent inability to make phone calls while on the 3G network and inability to download files of over 4.8MB in size.
Of them all, the one that bugged me the most was the inability to sign in to my Yahoo Messenger. I kept getting the frustrating error message – Service Not Enabled For This Handheld.
After a few calls to the GLO BlackBerry Customer Care and a visit to their branch here in Sokoto, I was directed to email their BlackBerry Department and that was how my problem was solved.
The procedure was quite simple as you are about to see.
NOTE: This tutorial makes the assumption that you own a BlackBerry Curve 9300 and that you are on the Globacom Nigeria Network. I can't assure you that the service book download will work for other networks.
Let's begin Winking smile
Step 1: Download the Yahoo Messenger Service Book V2 (Right click and save as) and BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Once downloaded, proceed to install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Step 2: Launch the Desktop Manager and backup your data as shown below by clicking on Backup Now
How to Connect To Yahoo Messenger On BlackBerry Curve 3G

Leave the settings as shown below but feel free to modify the location of the backup file. Hit the backup button and wait a minute for the backup to complete
How To Backup Your BlackBerry Curve 3G Data

Step 3: Once you are through backing up your entire BlackBerry Device, restore the Yahoo Messenger Service Book file to your handset using Desktop Manager
How To Install Yahoo Messenger Version 2 Service Book

Set the Backup Folder to the location of where you downloaded the service book to. Leave other settings as shown below, hit the restore button and wait a few seconds for the Yahoo Messenger Service Book to be loaded unto your BlackBerry Curve 9300.
How To Install Yahoo Messenger Version 2 Service Book

Step 4: Once the restore process is done, manually register your BlackBerry handset with the RIM network via the HRT (Host Routing Tables).
To do this  go to Menu >> Options >> Advanced Options  >> Host Routing Tables >> Menu >> Click Register Now and seconds after you should get a message that says "Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network."

Step 5: If you've created a BIS account for your computer, login with your username and password and re-send your BIS service books  >> Click on Help at the end of the Screen > Click on Send Service Books.
If you don't have access via your computer, go to Messages on your BlackBerry device and click on Menu >> Options >> Email Account Management >> Scroll down to end of screen and click on Help >> Send Service Books.

Step 6: If you find that you still can't sign in to Yahoo Messenger, pull out your battery, wait 30 seconds then reinsert and power your device again. It should work.

The above was what I did on my own device and Yahoo Messenger started to work Winking smile.
A big thank you goes out to Eloyi Soneye of Globacom's Corporate Call Center for saving the day. You rock man

How To Use Your BlackBerry As An Internet Modem

BlackBerry Internet Connection For Desktop & LaptopJust like most internet enabled mobile phones in the market today, every BlackBerry device in cases of emergency can serve as a modem to connect to the internet.
This tutorial will guide you through the quick steps needed to configure your BlackBerry Desktop Manager's mobile internet settings and thus get you connected to the web. Please note that you'll need to have another data plan with your network provider as you cannot use your BlackBerry data plan to surf the internet on your desktop/laptop.
If you're a Nigerian, here are the internet data settings and subscription plans for the major GSM companies in the country: Airtel-Zain Internet Plans, Glo Internet Plans, Etisalat Internet Plans and MTN Internet Plans.
After subscribing to your plan of choice, please take note of the Internet Settings of that particular network as you'd be needing it now.
Lets begin
Step 1
Download and Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Step 2
Launch your BlackBerry Desktop Manager and go to Tools in the menu bar section. Select Mobile Internet Settings from the drop down menu as shown below.
Configure BlackBerry Mobile Internet Settings

Depending on your country of origin, you can readily choose your settings from the preconfigured list. Nigerian networks aren't on the list thus I'll be creating a custom profile by clicking on the Add custom profile button circled in red below.
A small window pops up and you simply fill in your network's internet settings. Leave the Additional commands field clear!
Fill In Your Network Provider's Internet Settings

Once you are done, hit the OK button to exit the small popup screen then OK again to exit the Mobile Internet Settings configuration dialog.
Save Your Network Provider's Internet Settings

Go back to Menu >> Tools and click on Start Mobile Internet
Connect To The Internet Using The Created Profile

Ignore the warning below as you've already subscribed to a suitable data plan for your desktop/laptop browsing. Click on Connect
Ignore This Warning

If your network provider's internet service is working, at the bottom left of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, you should see something that looks like the capture below ( Time Connected and Data Used ). It means you are now connected.
BlackBerry Internet Connection For Desktop and Laptop Now Active

Once you're done surfing the internet, just go back to the menu bar >> Tools >> Disconnect Mobile Internet.
Disconnect BlackBerry Mobile Internet

And that's all there is to it. Hope you like and do please share it with your friends on Twitter, Facebook etc

How to unlock ZTE MF 190 Etisalat Modems with DC Unlocker

As we all know whenever you buy a new USB modem in Nigeria – it is usually locked so that it doesn’t use any other SIM Card of other networks except if the modem. We are talking about is a universal modem. But seriously, it doesn’t make any sense to buy a new modem and you won’t be able to use other SIM cards on it; at least you bought the modem with your hard earned money and you have control over your money. Right? So, in this post I will be teaching you step by step how to easily unlock your ZTE MF190 Etisalat modem, but note that this tutorial will also work for other ZTE MF190 modems be it MTN, Glo, Airtel or what have we again so far it’s the ZTE MF 190 type.

First of all, download the DC Unlocker by clicking here if you don’t have before.

Þ    Now, make sure you have removed everything in the modem including the SD card in order to make the unlocking process easy and trouble-free.

Þ    Now, insert another SIM card into the modem e.g. you can insert MTN, Glo or Airtel SIM card into it since we are trying to unlock a Etisalat modem and vice versa, hope you get?

Þ    You should now unzip the DC Unlocker you download in step 1 (you can use winrar, winzip or any other unzipping app), then open dcc rap.exe.

After opening Dccrap.exe, you can now plug in your modem and wait for a while till the computer reads and identify the modem.

Þ    Now, choose ZTE data cards in the select manufacturer list (No. 1 in the screenshot).

Þ    Choose Auto detect in the select model

Drop-down list (No. 2 in the screenshot).

Þ    Don’t bother to touch the ports list, just click on the

Search button (No. 3 in the screenshot)

Þ    Now, you will see the DC Unlocker is checking and testing your modem according to the text that is being displayed in the box below the options.

Þ    When you’ve seen that the DC Unlocker has detected your modem, you can now click on

Þ    Unlock under the unlocking options (

No 4 in the screenshot). In just few seconds, you will see a successful screen that tells you that your card/modem has been unlocked successfully.

You are now through with your modem unlocking, now you can insert as many SIM cards as you won’t see any restriction again which means that you now have power over your own modem. I am very sure you won’t have any problem while unlocking your modem because it is very simple 8 straight forward but if you face any problem, kindly make use of the comment box below – I’ll be glad to help.
